Along the River – rewalk!

Filed under: Adventures Intro,Our Mission — admin @ 4:31 am

For the moment our weather has turned beautiful.  Yesterday, Saturday, it was 70 plus degrees and sunny.  So we decided to go for another walk along the river going south so I could retake the pictures that I thought I took last time but found out my card was full.

It was breezy along the river but very pleasant.  There were many people out and a lot was happening.  We saw several wedding parties along the way taking pictures and as I load pictures you will see some of those as well.  I was so glad that there was another motorcycle “convention” with perhaps even more motorcycles than there were two weeks ago.  So here are the pictures I took and a little information to go with them.

Along the way there are many places to sit. This series of benches have metal sculptures with them. Elder Morgenegg is sitting under a metal umbrella. At least it blocks the sun.

Here we are nearing the motorcycle statue and you can see the motorcycles congregating.

Here is what all the commotion is about - the new motorcycle statue. It is hard to see in the picture but it is made of metal and seems to perhaps have some actual parts on it from a motorcycle but not sure about that.

I Love Dnipro - yes we are coming to love it here.

Spring’s Winter Blast!

Filed under: Adventures Intro,Our Mission — admin @ 11:25 pm

Near our apartment the snow is nearly all gone but here in the center of Dnepr where our office is there is still a lot of snow.  The good news is the paths are often shoveled and clear so not as much ice as there was and it is sunny and melting today so maybe later it will be even easier to walk when we go home.

Yesterday was a different story. Power lines down and sagging, tram not running up and down the hill, roads closed and marshrutkas trying to find new routes to follow and passengers trying to find where the marshrutkas were.  It was a mess.  Here are a few pictures I took with my phone that show how bad it was.  There are still many tree branches down.  President Sullivan said he had to climb over a large tree branch to get down his road.

This is heading toward our office - you can see there is much more snow than near our apartment and many branches are down.

Our office from across the street. You can see the power lines down. We didn't know if we would have power. We did and were grateful as it is warmer at work than at home.

So we are all hoping that Spring is done joking with us and that the forecast will be for warm weather – anything about freezing will be warm at this point but we are hoping for 70s – that would be like a heat wave.

Galena Doll

The woman who cleans our office is a gifted artist and she creates many Ukrainian costumes and dolls.

I decided to buy a doll from her.  It looks very much like her.  She creates the faces and the costumes and assembles the dolls as well.  She is almost two feet tall.

Spring is here – maybe not yet!

So we woke up this morning to snow and very cold temperatures with wind and branches falling down.

In fact there were places where roads were closed and traffic (what little there was) was being detoured.

I think schools may have been closed as almost no one was out.

Here are pictures taken from our window.  I took more on my phone on the way to work.

I will upload those and add them later.

See the snow falling and coating everything.

Doesn't look like much here but on the way to work it was more like the six they predicted. Perhaps the most snow we have seen since we arrived here in December.
