So it is another preparation day (p-day) for us and as Elder Morgenegg was sweeping we were pondering on how we often see people (usually women) out sweeping in front of their doms (homes/apartment) and stores and other buildings. They are bent over and use these little brooms. When we moved into our apartment we had two of these little brooms – about two or two and a half feet long – certainly not three feet long. A typical broom used by everyone here. So short you have to stoop over to use it.
We bought a regular broom and mop and dustpan to use but we still have our two traditional brooms. One is obviously well used, the other is decorated with ribbons and not used at all – perhaps meant as decoration. Not sure. I would think people would prefer not to stoop over to sweep. Oh, they also use them to sweep snow off the steps and sidewalks. They do seem sturdy but you have to stoop – that to me is a big negative.
